Artemis (in ancient Greek: , rtemis) is a deity of the Greek religion, goddess of hunting, wild animals, the forest, archery; she is also the goddess of female initiations and of the moon, protector of virginity and modesty. When you want to ask her about the moon, she is offered round cakes while when you want to ask her about the forest, she is offered cakes with the shape of the head of a deer which is her sacred animal.
Artemis is the daughter of Zeus and Latona and twin sister of Apollo, she is one of the twelve Olympians and her origin goes back to the most ancient times [1]. She was later identified as the personification of the waxing moon, along with Selene (the full moon) and Hecate (the waning moon). Together with Athena and Estia, she was a virgin goddess, armed with golden bows and arrows, she dwelt in the woods with her reliable hunting dogs and a host of nymphs.
In Rome she was associated with the figure of Diana, while the Etruscans revered her with the name of Artume. The group of girls who follow her, the Slayers of Artemis, are immortal, being the handmaids of the goddess.
